Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform pitch matching efficiently and make possible high speed operation by detecting the relative position relations of grooves and optical fibers and moving the die forward or backward in the case of containing the optical fibers in the grooves of grooved spacers.
CONSTITUTION: The optical fiber 1 being supplied from the rotary gage 3 of a gathering machine is drawn by a die 4 into the groove 21 of a grooved spacer 2 and is contained therein. In this case, the relative position relations of the optical fiber 1 and groove 21 are detected and the die 4 is moved by a correcting amount in the correcting direction, whereby the deviation between the pitch of the groove and the twist pitch of the fiber is corrected. More specifically, if the revolution of the rotary gage of the gathering machine is over advanced than the pitch of the spiral groove 21, the die 4 is moved to the gage side and if converse, it is moved opposite. It is desirable as a method of controlling the die 4 to control the position of the die by way of a servo motor by the detection signal of the above-mentioned position relations. Visual control by making the die by transparent hard material is a simple method.
