Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable propulsion of the ship when the main engine gets trouble by a system wherein two AC rotary units are coupled with two speed controled main engine through a clutch, and the axis of high speed rotary unit and a prime mover are coupled through a clutch in order to allow the low speed rotary unit to use as a propulsion power generator.
CONSTITUTION: Two speeds controled main engine 1 is coupled with a variable pitch propeller through a reduction gear 3. The reduction gear 3 is respectively coupled with a AC rotary unit 7 corresponding to the high speed operation of the main engine and coupled with AC rotary unit 6 corresponding to a low speed operation. Besides, the rotary unit 6 is coupled with a motor 5 to drive the propeller 4 on a trouble of the main engine through a clutch 8. The electric power generated by AC rotary units 6, 7 and an independent generator 12 is recovered through a bus line. On a trouble of the main engine 1, the generators 5, 12 are operated by detaching a power coupling unit 2 to drive AC rotary unit 7 as a propulsion generator for turning the propeller 4.
