Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove air present in a metal mold at the time of foaming without use of evacuating means and provide a titled molded article free of voids by a method wherein an air bag is interposed between a mold member and a press- fastening fixer plate, and is inflated for close-contact press-fastening under a predetermined pressure. CONSTITUTION:A lower metal mold 9 is charged with a foamable plastic raw material such as polyethylene-based one, and its top opening is closed up with an upper metal mold 8. This assembly is easted on an air bag 4 placed between upper and lower fixer plates 1 and 2 of a frame body A. Then the bag 4 is inflated for close-contact press-fastening of the molds 8 and 9 under a predetermined pneumatic pressure. Under such condition, with the raw material foamed and expanded and with the pressure inside the molds allowed to increase beyond the predetermined pressure, the bag 4 is flattened and reduced in volume so that air, foam gas, and the like inside the molds 8 and 9 are discharged through the gaps at the top portion. Thus, the foamed body is allowed to fill up the interior of the molds 8 and 9 and is hardened in situ. EFFECT:No need for after-treatment such as deburring.
