Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the capacity of commutation reactors and commutation capacitors, by connecting discharge diodes and discharge resistors in series with each other in reverse to the polarity of a power source and coupling the series circuits in parallel with two commutation reactors.
CONSTITUTION: A series circuit of a discharge diode 31 and a discharge resistor 33 is coupled in parallel with a commutation reactor 3 and another series circuit of a discharge diode 32 and a discharge resistor 34 is coupled in parallel with another commutation reactor 4 so that the anodes of the discharge diodes are connected to the cathode of a DC power source 1. As a result, magnetic energy stored in the commutation reactors 3, 4 is discharged through discharge bypass circuits, one of which comprises a commutation reactor 3, a discharge resistor 33 and the discharge diode 31, for example. Since energy stored in the commutation reactors 3, 4 and commutation capacitors 17∼22 is discharged, the currents of the reactors decrease sharply.
