Abstract

PURPOSE: To ensure accurate checking of flaws through checking of a probe coupling based on a saw tooth echo by amplifying a flaw signal picked with an ultrasonic wave penetrating into the test metal.
CONSTITUTION: An ultrasonic beam from a slant probe 2 penetrates into a test work 1 and the wave reflected reaches a receiving system. The wave is alternately inputted to a flaw signal system and a saw tooth echo system 7 through an electronic switch 5 corresponding to each one of a repeated frequency. The signal in the flaw signal system 6 is amplified by an amplfier 8 and indicated on a display 6 while recorded in the recording system 17. The saw tooth echo signal is amplified by amplifiers 11 and 12 and then indicated on an display 13. Then, the coupling state of the probe 2 is observed as the amplitude of the saw tooth echo.
