Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture exhaust manifolds having a high strength economically and with ease, by filling slurry of heat insulating material into a space formed between the inner peripheral surface of tubular metal member and the outer peripheral surface of a core inserted into the tubular metal member, and burning the core during the process of baking the slurry.
CONSTITUTION: Bore 1a is formed at the portion of casted blank 1 where inner lining is to be formed, so that a step is formed at the boundary portion of the bore 1a and bore 1b where inner lining is not to be formed. On the other hand, core 2 of polystyrene foam consists of inserted portion 2a fitted in bore 1a, inserted portion 2b fitted in bore 1b, and flange 2c formed with notch 2d. In forming inner lining, core 2 is at first inserted into casted blank 1 and slurry of ceramic material is poured from notch 2d into a space formed between the inner wall surface of bore 1a and the outer peripheral surface of core portion 2a. Thereafter, core 2 is burnt off by heating blank 1 and core 2, and then inner lining 3 is formed by baking the slurry.
