Abstract
PURPOSE:To hold the upper work roll in the undriven state and to freely support it, which are required at the skew rolling for the tip of the hot strip, without lowering the working efficiency, by installing the retainer at the end of driving joint so as to disconnect the joint connection of the upper work roll and to freely support it. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical retainer 9 is provided with a noncircular joint hole; and the retainer 9 is inserted into the external cylindrical joint head 4 through its splines provided in the circumference. The block 10 of outer shape fittable to above noncircular joint hole, internally holding a couple of double roller bearings suitably separated from each other by the spacer, is fitted into the retainer 9; into this block 10, the joint end being formed into the diameter equal to the inner diameter of above roller bearings, of the upper work roll 6, is inserted. By this nechanism, while the rolling work, the rolling torque is transmitted to the driving spindle 3, and the head 4, the retainer 9 and the block 10 are rotated. However, owing to the action of above stated roller bearings internally held in the block 10, any rotating forcce is not transmittd to the joint end of the work roll 6 and the power transmission to the work roll 6 is interrupted, and the work roll 6 is held in the undriven state.
