Abstract

The roll head contains hollow roll shafts, which are aligned at an angle w.r.t. the rolling line and on the end of each shaft is an overhanging conical roll. Each shaft is located by splines or teeth in the bore of a bevel drive gear, so the shaft can be moved axially, to alter the roll gap, but cannot rotate w.r.t. the bevel gear. The end of the roll shaft near the roll is located in a radial roller bearing, but its other end is located in a tapered roller bearing with an outer race which cannot rotate and which rests on an axially adjustable support ring. A radial roller bearing is pref. used in conjunction with the tapered roller bearing. Easy axial adjustment is achieved of the roll shafts to obtain a desired roll gap.
