Abstract

PURPOSE: To get a good shaft sealing effect, by inserting guide pins with coil springs in a junction between a fixing ring and a carbon ring which is put on the reduced portion of a stepped rotational shaft fitted loose in a hole on a casing and fixing the fixing ring to the casing.
CONSTITUTION: The large diametral portion 12 of a rotational shaft 10 is put on the high pressure side, while the small diametral portion 14 is directed to a fitting hole 22 of a casing 20 on the lower pressure side, and a stepped sliding face 16 is drawn near the hole 22. A cylindrical carbon ring 34 is put loose on the small diametral portion 14 up to the innermost, so that its internal and external surfaces come in contact with the sliding face 16 and the fitting hole 22, respectively. One end of a guide pin 50 is inserted and fixed in a hole 42 of a fixing ring 40. After being equipped with a coil spring 52 on it, the other end of the pin 50 is fitted loose in a hole 38 of the carbon ring 34, and a flange 44 of the fixing ring 40 is fixed with bolts 48 to the external wall of the casing 20. This can produce a shaft sealing effect equal to mechanical sealing.
