Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a molding coal composition useful as a solid fuel having a greatly increased strength, especially at high temperatures, from residual oil obtained from the distillation of naphtha-cracked tar and original coal.
CONSTITUTION: A hundred wt part of original coal is mixed with 4W13 wt parts of residual oil of a softening point of 10W80°C, preferably 20W60°C, obtained from the distillation of naphtha cracked tar. If the softening point of the residual oil is 10°C or less, the strength of molded coal obtained becomes so low that the loosening of molded coal occurs when handling because the residual oil as binder is too soft, but if it exceeds 80°C, the strength of the molded coal becomes low likewise because the residual oil as binder is too high in viscosity. Also, the proportion of the residual oil should be in the range from 4 wt parts to 13 wt parts, or the sufficient strength of molded coal could not be obtained.
