Abstract

PURPOSE: To avoid blooming by connecting a diode to a photodiode in series with reverse polarity and applying a bias voltage to the photodiode.
CONSTITUTION: A diode 12 is connected in series to a photodiode 3 in reverse polarity to the latter, and a power source 13 of a voltage VB is connected to thereto. As a clock signal is delivered to the terminal 4, the potential waveform 14 at the node 5 is gradually lowered so that the potential at a point 15 is read in a node 6 when a high level pulse VCH is received by the terminal 4, as a signal charge. The voltage relationship is selected to meet the condition of VB>VTr-VT, where VT represents the threshold voltage of the FET, while VTr represents the potential of the transfer stage. As a strong light is applied to the photodiode 3, the potential waveform 16 of the node 5 is drastically reduced to VB so that the diode 12 takes the forward direction and the potential is clipped at a level VB. Therefore, FET 2 is not turned on by the transfer pulse so that the signal is prevented from leaking to the transfer stage.
