Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the thickness of counter electrode material and achieve the reduction in the thickness of the cell by using the sintered body of the paste of the organic compound of metals or the paste containing carbon for the counter electrode.
CONSTITUTION: The film obtained by screen-printing the paste composed of organic metal compounds or conductive inert metals such as platinum, Pd or silver or carbonaceous compounds then firing the same at high temperature is used as an electrode 3 for the counter elctrode around the display electrodes 2 on a substrate 1. This enables the reduction in the thickness of the device to be achieved, as a result of which the breakage owing to expansion of electrochromic material may be prevented. Further fine undulations are formed on the counter electrode surfaces because the counter electrode is a sintered body and this results in the increased counter electrode surface area and improved response speed of display.
