Abstract

PURPOSE: To realize high speed switching operation and liberate from necessity to couple the optical fibers at high precision, without using mechanical moving parts, by changing over signals electrically when transmitting data through optical fibers.
CONSTITUTION: The light signal propagated from an entrance side optical fiber 8 is converted into an electric signal by a photo detector 9, and amplified 10 to be inputted into switch circuits 13, 14. When a control signal to connect the switch circuit 13 and disconnect 14 is delivered from a control circuit 17, the electric signal from the amplifier 10 is connected only to the light emitting device 11 through a driving circuit 15 to be converted to an optical signal, which is guided into an exit side optical fiber 18. In the reverse case, the electric signal from the amplifier 10 is connected only to the light emitting device 12 to be converted to an optical signal, which is then guided into an exit side optical fiber 19. Thus, signals are changed over electrically.
