Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the thickness of a DC motor in axial direction by closely contacting a magnetic field producing soft magnetic material with a permanent magnet so that the soft magnetic material is equivalent to the permanent magnet.
CONSTITUTION: A rotor 1 is formed by insulating the surface of a flat annular iron core 2 and closely winding armature winding 3 such as enameled wire or the like on the iron core 2. A rotary shaft 4 is coupled through a nonmagnetic material 5 with the rotor. Semi-circular magnetic path forming soft iron yokes 61, 62 are so provided on the upper and lower surfaces of the rotor that both the surfaces generate field magnetic flux of the same polarity. Nonmagnetic supports 71, 72 support through bearings 81, 82, respectively the shaft 4 by the yokes 61, 62, respectively. A permanent magnet 9 is magnetized with different polarities at right and left halves, and the yokes 61, 62 incorporate the same polarity as the surface facing with the permanent magnet. Brushes 11, 12 are urged via springs 13, 14, respectively to make direct contact with the winding 3. The insulating coating of the winding 3 at this contacted portion is separated to thereby cause the winding itself to function as the commutator. Since only one permanent magnet is sufficient for the motor thereby, it can reduce the thickness of the motor in axial direction.
