Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the unidirectional light isolator of less transmission losses to the light including full-direction polarization components by combining the 1st, 2nd polarizers and the 1st, 2nd Faraday rotation elements.
CONSTITUTION: The polarizing elements comprising being formed by affixing calcite or the like and double-refracting the incident light having full-direction polarization components to two mutually orthogonally intersecting light beams are used. The light having transmitted through the upper portion of the 1st polarizing element 11 contains only the polarizing component in the horizontal direction (Y direction) which is then reflected by a mirror A and transmits through the 1st Faraday rotation element 12A, by which its polarization direction is rotated 45°. This light enters the 2nd polarizer 14. On the other hand, the light having transmitted through the lower portion of the 1st polarizer 11 has the polarizing component in the vertical direction (X direction) which then goes through the 2nd Faraday rotation element 12B, mirror 13B, by which its polarization direction is rotated 45°. This light enters the 2nd polarizer 14. Both lights are combined to one light beam. Here, the light advancing in the direction opposite from the above is cut off by the polarizing elements and Faraday rotation elements of the abovementioned combination.
