Abstract
PURPOSE: To allow two kinds of polarized beams of an incident light to pass through two magneto-optical materials so that the transmission loss may be independent of the polarized condition of the incident light by attaching a common double refraction crystal to the inlet and outlet portions of the two magneto-optical materials having the same shape.
CONSTITUTION: Two magnetooptical materials 10 and 11, which are arranged in parallel, have their length determined such that the incident and emanating beams have polarizing directions different by 45 degrees by the magnetic field. A pair of double refraction crystals 9 and 12 are attached to the both ends thereof such that the straight line XX joining the inlet portions of the materials 10 and 11 is arranged at an angle of 45 degrees with respect to the straight line YY joining the outlet portions of the same. In the forward direction, an incident beam 8 is branched by the crystal 9 into two optical pathes of different polarization to enter the materials 10 and 11. Since the crystalline axis of the crystal 12 of the outlet portion is rotated at 45 degrees with respect to that of the crystal 9 of the inlet portion, the beam 8 emanates as the emanating light 13 after it has been composed.
