PURPOSE: To obtain fibers wherein an iron as core wires coated with borosilicate glass continuously at a high speed, by pulling out a heated melt of the alloy in a borosilicate glass tube together with the glass.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy of the formula (M is Si, Ni, or Cr; x is 0.1W25; y is 0.1W35) is molten at 1200W1400°C in a borosilicate glass. The melt is then pulled out together with the glass to give the desired fibers compresing the alloy as core wires coated with the glass.
EFFECT: Improved strength and fire resistance.
USE: Heat-resistant, fireproof flame-retardant fibers, filter fibers, etc.
