Abstract

PURPOSE:To develop a build-up welding alloy having superior high temp. hardness and thermal impact resistance by adding a specified amt. of Fe to a high carbon Co alloy contg. W, Cr, etc. or further adding V, Mo, etc. CONSTITUTION:10-30% Fe is added to a Co alloy contg. C 1.0-3.5%, W 5- 20%, Cr 20-35%, Mn 0.1-2.0% and Si 0.1-2.0%. 0.5-5.0% V and/or 3-9% Mo may be added. The resulting Co alloy of the above-mentioned compsn. has superior high temp. hardness and thermal impact resistance, so it shows superior performance when used in build-up welding of an engine valve, a valve seat, etc. of a high performance engine.
