Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve combustibility of mixture by causing turbulence of the same, by employing an arrangement in which a heart-shaped recess with a guide groove is formed at the top of piston and a torch hole is opened tangentially to the guide groove.
CONSTITUTION: Lean mixture is supplied from main suction valve into main combustion chamber 4 located upwardly of piston 3, whereas rich mixture is supplied from subsidiary suction valve 6 into subsidiary combustion chamber 7 formed in cylinder head 20. At the top of piston, there are formed a guide groove 16 and a heart-shaped recess continuous to the guide groove 16. Ignition plug 9 is provided in the subsidiary combustion chamber 7, and a torch hole 8 is also provided for communicating the subsidiary combustion chamber 7 to main combustion chamber 5. This torch hole 8 is opened in main combustion chamber 5 tangentially to guide groove 16, so that flame flow from chamber 7 to chamber 5 can be rendered smooth.
