Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a clear image by preventing danger or flame and restraining flow of softened resin, by preheating the paper surface on which unfixed toner is deposited with an infrared ray lamp, and then heating instantly by flash with a flash discharge lamp.
CONSTITUTION: The paper surface on which unfixed toner is deposited is preheated to 60°CW150°C by means of an infrared ray lamp or an infrared ray heater, and is then immediately heated with a flash discharge lamp by applying an instant energy application of 0.25 joule or more per 1cm2 of paper surface to adhere and set the toner, thus fixing. The energy supplied by flash radiation is used to raise the temperature of the paper and toner and to adhere the toner, but the energy for raising the temperature of the paper does not contribute to the clarification of the image. Therefore, in the preheat stage, by heating with an infrared ray lamp, the flash heating energy in the fixing stage may be saved, so that a clear image may be obtained without risk of flame.
