Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform revolution checking of multiple rolls automatically and continuously in a short time by checking the revolutions of the rolls in the slab passageway from the respective revolving conditions of the detecting rolls of a moving body which moves while making friction contact with each roll. CONSTITUTION:A roll revolution detecting device 10 is inserted and moved between the upper and lower roll groups of the continuous casting machine by making use of dummy bars. If at this time the roll to be detected 15 in the slab passageway is normal, it revolves in the arrow A direction owing to the friction force with the roll revolving drive body 11. The detecting roll 14 making contact with the roll 15 revolves in the arrow B direction according to the rotating amount of the roll 15 when only the effect of the revolutions of the roll 15 is considered. Also, it rolls in the arrow C direction according to the movement amount of the time while it is making contact with the rool 15 when only the effect of the movement of the roll 14 is considered. Owing to the effect of both, the detection roll 14 revolves in the arrow D direction by as much as the difference in the rotation amounts in the B direction and C direction. By detecting the number of revolutions or the angle of revolutions and the direction of revolutions of this roll 14, the goodness or not of the roll 15 and the goodness or not of its bearings are discriminated.
