Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve anode spot stability by carbonizing the pointed end of arc supporting part of treated tungsten anode over desired length.
CONSTITUTION: The pointed end of the arc supporting part 2 of a treated tungsten anode comprising a cylindrical body 1 and a connected corn shaped arc supporting part 2 is carbonized to form a carbide layer 3 where only length 1 which is longer than 1/4 of length of the arc supporting part L is carbonized. Carbon powder is applied on the desired part and treated at high temperature in a vacuum to cause solid state reaction, thus the pointed end of said arc supporting part is carbonized.
