Abstract

09 PURPOSE:To measure efficiently the direction of a target by automatically controlling measuring time responsive to the intensity of coming radio wave, averaging the measuring data within the measured time, and then indicating the direction to thereby reduce the measuring error. CONSTITUTION:A direction finding antenna group 1 is switched in beam or element unit by an antenna switching circuit 2 to apply the switching output to a direction finding circuit 4 to thereby measure the direction of the target. The intensity of input electric field of the coming radio wave is measured by an electric field intensity measuring circuit 6, and a measuring time controller 7 calculates the measuring time responsive to the signal to noise ratio of the coming radio wave to obtain the intrinsic error of the instrument less than predetermined value by the measuring time controller 7. An averaging instrument 8 averages the measured data D outputted from the direction finding circuit 4 during the time thus calculated to average the measured data D after completing the measuring time to thus indicate the direction of the target via a direction indicator 5 by the measured output E obtained thus.
