Abstract

PURPOSE: To impart a material containing polyurethane elastomer with durable chlorine resistance, by treating the material with a specific aromatic compound and a fluorine-containing compound.
CONSTITUTION: A material containing polyurethane elastomer, e.g. a fibrous material containing polyurethane elastomer yarns, is immersed in an aqueous solution or dispersion of an aromatic compound containing one or more phenolic OH groups and one or more acidic groups in a molecule, e.g. a condensate of phenolsulfonic acid and formaldehyde or a novolac resin having methanesulfonic acid groups. The pH of the solution, etc. is about 1W4. After attaching about 0.1W20wt% of the aromatic compound to the material, the material is further treated with a compound containing perfluoroalkyl groups of formula I or II (R5 is perfluoroalkyl; R2 is lower alkyl; m is positive integer) to attach about 0.01W5wt% of the compound.
