Abstract

PURPOSE: To control the spacings between sectional dies based on the height of crests and effectively form bellows of various heights of crests by applying high pressure to the inside of the blank pipe while applying axial compressive force to the plural sectional dies enclosing the blank pipe.
CONSTITUTION: First, a seal die 4 is pressed by a cylinder 11 and pressure fluid is supplied to a spacing part 3, whereby internal pressure is applied to a blank pipe 2. Then, a core metal 1 and blank pipe 2 are pressed and moved in the axial direction, but the blank pipe 2 is prevneted from moving by the seal die 6, whereby it is applied with axial compressive force. If at this time the spacings between the seal dies 4, 6 and sectional dies 9 are reduced while the correlations among the axial compressive force upon the blank pipe 2, internal pressure and the movement in the X-, Y-directions of cams 10 are being maintained, then a bellows 15 is formed on the outside circumference of the blank pipe 2. It is possible to form the bellows of a uniform crest height or different crest heights by simultaneously moving the entire part of the cams 10 or individually moving these. In addition, if the position of cams is controlled with an operator by detecting the crest height with a displacement gage, the bellows is formed at high accuracy.
