Abstract

PURPOSE: To decolorize H-type cation exchange membrane without causing it to deteriorate by treating the membrane with a hypochlorous acid ion-containing aqueous solution.
CONSTITUTION: The cation exchange membrane manufactured by incorporating cation exchange groups into a membranous substance under a severe condition, which is usually tinted, is treated with an aqueous solution containing 10W100,000ppm of hypochlorous acid ion in a pH (6.5W13.8) range from neutral to alkaline by a dipping method or other adequate methods after being converted into H-type exchange membrane or as such, whereby the exchange membrane can be decolorized without causing deterioration. Thus, the commercial value of the cation exchange membrane can be raised.
