Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce the captioned Ti alloy which is thermally stable even to aging by heating and holding the Ti alloy containing the specific amount of Mo at a temperature lower by a certain extent from its β transformation point then quenching the same at the martensite-transformable cooling rate.
CONSTITUTION: The Ti alloy containing 1 to 11wt% of Mo and composed of the rest Ti and incidental impurities is heated and held above a temperature lower by 70°C than its β transformation point, after which it is quenched at the martensite- transformable cooling rate through contact with the rollers cooled by, e.g., water cooling or roller rolling. Then, this alloy assumes a martensite structure and exhibits superior vibration damping chracteristics. Even if small amounts of Al, Sn, Cr, V, Zr, Fe are added to this alloy in order to improve its mechanical strength, the effect thereof is not impaired at all.
