Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the captioned alloy which is thermally stable even to aging by giving work strain to the Ti alloy in which Mo alone or part of Mo is substituted by any one kind of Cr, V, Zr and whose main structure is β phase thereby providing the strain-induced martensite structure.
CONSTITUTION: The Ti alloy containing Mo at 11 to 16wt% or the Ti alloy in which not more than 1/2 of the content wt% of the Mo is substituted by any one or more kinds of Cr, V, Zr and which is composed of the rest Ti and incidental impurities is able to form chiefly β phase at ordinary temperature. When the amount of reduction of more than 3% is given to this Ti alloy whose main structure is the β phase by such a method as forging or rolling, the strain-induced martensite structure containing high vibration damping ability may be obtained. Even if small amounts of Al, Sn, Fe are added to the alloy of this invention for the purpose of improving its mechanical strength, the effect thereof is not impaired.
