Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain the title molding with no defect by preforming molten glass from a duct into a glass gob and sucking the top of the gob to transfer the gob into a heating furnace after which the gob is heated, supplied into a mold, and press molded.
CONSTITUTION: Molten glass flowing out of duct 1 is poured into the preforming mold consisting of lower mold 4 and barrel mold 5, cut with cutting edge 6, and supplied as glass gob 7.1 in order. Gob 7.1 is solidified in the vicinity of the contact part between molds 4, 5 during moving, forming preformed glass gob 7.2. At a taking-out position, suction cylinder 10 of a vacuum transfer unit is lowered to suck the central part of the top of gob 7.2, which is then suspended and heated in an electrically heating furnace to a predetermined state. By lowering cylinder 10 heated glass gob 7.2 is supplied into mold 14 for press molding, the top of gob 7.2 is rapidly heated, and upper mold 15 is lowered to obtain molding 7.3.
