Abstract

PURPOSE: o-Chlorophenyldiphenylmethanol that is inexpensive as an intermediate is made to react with an active tri-(1-imidazolyl)phosphine to produce readily title compound showing antifungal activity in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The Friedel-Craft reaction of o-chlorobenzotrichloride and benzene is effected in the presence of aluminum trichloride and the reaction mixture is treated with water to form a stable intermediate, o-chlorophenyldiphenylmethanol. Then, the reaction of the product with an active tri-(1-imidazolyl)phosphine gives the objective compound. The tri-(1-imidazolyl)phosphine is obtained by reaction of a trialkylsilyl derivative of imidazole with phosphorus trichloride.
EFFECT: The reaction time is remarkably shortened.
