Abstract

PURPOSE: To purify the title compound, an intermediate of pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, perfumes, etc., in high yield without lowering its quality, by distillation of p-hydroxybenzaldehyde with a thin-film vacuum evaporator in a short period at a temperature as low as possible.
CONSTITUTION: Crude p-hydroxybenzaldehyde is purified by distillation with a thin-film vacuum evaporator at 100°CW180°C. For example a film evaporator is preferable as the thin-film vacuum evaporator. However, any evaporator may be used, if it has a device which enables the evaporation of the material at a fixed temp. in a short period. Addition of the third component, e.g. bisphenol A, dioctylphthalate etc., is effective to increase the fluidity of the residual liquid and to prevent the blocking of the device.
EFFECT: High bulk density.
