Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the production of nitrogen oxides resulting from combustion, by providing an atomization cylinder and an emulsifier.
CONSTITUTION: Fuel conducted from a tank 1 is removed of extraneous substances by a strainer 2. The fuel is then pressurized by a fuel pump 3. The flow rate of the fuel is measured by a flow meter 4. After the fuel is passed through an emergency shut-off valve 5, the flow rate of the fuel is adjusted by a flow control valve 6. The fuel is thereafter introduced into the emulsifier 9 through an inlet connector 7 so that the fuel is mixed by revolution with water supplied through a water supply connector 8, thereby making an emulsion. This emulsion is supplied to the atomization cylinder 12 through a pipe 10 and a feed port 11 opened through the end of the pipe 10. Shallow recesses 29 of prescribed width are provided on the inside surface of the atomization cylinder along its axis. Therefore, fuel layers of large thickness are projected from the recesses 29 but fuel layers of small thickness are projected from the other inside part of the atomization cylinder 12. As a result, thick and thin combustion zones are formed.
