Abstract

PURPOSE: To constantly obtain an optimal operating efficiency by controlling the angles of an inlet guide vane and a diffuser of each stage in centrifugal compressors coupled in multi-stage according to a vey wide range of operating conditions.
CONSTITUTION: The angles of inlet guide vanes 11W14 and outlet-side diffusers 15W18 of compressors 4W7 are adjusted at arbitrary values by respective drives 19. The operating conditions of the centrifugal compressor as a whole or of the compressor in each stage are detected by detection means: for example, air flow rate, temperature, and pressure are detected respectively by flow rate, temperature, and pressure sensors 20, 21 and 22. A control means 23 is arranged between the detection means and the drives 19. Thus, an optimum operating efficiency can constantly be obtained by controlling the angles of the guide vanes 11W14 and the diffusers 15W18 according to various kinds of variations in operating conditions.
