Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover water and chromium efficiently so as to prevent completely secondary environmental pollution from occurring, by treating waste water contg. chromium divided according to the concentration respectively in one of blocks formed by dividing the treating system.
CONSTITUTION: In a first treating system a, waste liq. (a) discharged from a plating unit 1 is treated through diaphragm electrolysis for a chromic acid-regenerating unit 2, and the regenerated plating soln. is returned to the unit 1. In a second treating system B, conc. waste soln. (c) produced by spray washing of plated articles is subjected to vacuum distillation in a concentrating-recovery unit 5 to produce pure water, which is returned to the washing unit 3, the residual soln. being recycled to the plating unit 1. In a third treating system C, a dilute waste soln. produced by immersion washing 6 of the plated articles is treated 8 through ion exchange to collect hexabalent chromium and other metallic ions, which are desorbed and delivered to a fourth treating system D, recovered water being used once again in washing 6. In the fourth treating system, sludges delivered from the first, second, and third treating systems are reacted 9 with ferrite to form ferrite compounds, which are dehydrated 10 and disposed 11, residual water being used once again.
