Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce splines of good product accuracy through press forming by using a punch formed with crests and troughs, dies formed with crests and dies having flat faces.
CONSTITUTION: A multiplicity of dies 9 having the crest parts 9a opposing to the groove parts 7a of a punch 7 and the trough parts 9b opposing to the crest parts 7b of the punch 7 are disposed in opposition to the outside circumference of the punch 7. A blank 8 is put on the outside circumference of the punch 7 and each die 9 is pressed toward the punch 7. In this state, the wall of the blank 8 does not fill the both side corner parts 7c of the tooth bottom, leaving cavities S. Next, a multiplicity of dies 10 having flat faces 10a pressing the every other crest parts 8a of the outside circumference of the blank 8 are pressed toward the punch 7. As a result, one of the both side corner parts 7C of the tooth bottom is filled with the wall of the blank 8. Next, the remaining crest parts are pressed. As a result, all the cavities S are annihilated. If necessary, final finishing is perfomed by further pressing the crest parts with the molding dies having the inside circumferential surface fitting the outside circumference of the blank.
