Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve effective adsorption rate per volume by partitioning the inside of outer straight trunk type adsorption element into many penetrating holes by using walls of activated carbon fiber-containing sheets and setting the angle formed by the holes and the straight trunk at an angle of 1W50 degrees.
CONSTITUTION: The starting material such as acrylic synthetic fiber is heat-treated. The treated fiber is carbonized and activated in N2 gas atomosphere containing active gas such as NH3 and precessed by suitable method to form porous gas-transmissible corrugated sheet. The sheet is wound up into a straight cylindrical shape. The corrugated form is made in a repeated uneven form. The angle θ formed by the ridge of wave and the vertical axis is 1W50 degrees, preferably 1W40 degrees. By this process, the capacity of conventional honeycomb type adsorption element is improved, the thickness of the adsorption zone becomes thin and the effective adsorption rate is doubled.
