Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the accuracy of mounting of a dressed grindstone on a spindle and improve the accuracy of dressing, by irradiating an ion beam upon the grindstone fitted on a flange in a device for dressing the grindstone by inert gas ions.
CONSTITUTION: An ion source 2, wherein an inert gas is ionized, is provided on the top of a vacuum working chamber 1 to project an iron beam into the chamber. A dressed annular grindstone 5 fitted with a flange 4 is set in the chamber 1 so that the axis of the grindstone perpendicularly intersects the direction of the projection of the ion beam 3. The grindstone is rotatably pivoted to one end of an arm 7. A driving means 6 for rotating the grindstone 5 is mounted on another end of the arm 7. The driving means 6 is coupled to a rocking means 9 through a shaft 8 which rotatably extends through one side of the chamber 1. The rocking means 9 is provided outside the chamber 1 to swing the grindstone 5. The peripheral surface and both sides of the grindstone 5 can thus be simultaneously and uniformly dressed.
