Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the generation of 'kinks' when the side edge is grinded by previously chamfering-grinding the escape edge of a rotating wheel.
CONSTITUTION: When the surface of the side edge 1A of the glass plate is grinded up to the specified position shown by the imagined line 6 with a rotating wheel facing the escape side of the wheel to the lower side, the escape edge E2 of the plate side edge is previously cut obliquely and grinded prior to this grinding and the preset side edge surface grinding is performed. When this edge is obliquely cut and grinded, the quantity of abrasion and the angle θ of oblique cutting are selected so that the edge E4 of the side is located in the oblique cutting surface 7 after subsequent side edge is completed. As described above, by previously obliquely grinding even the escape edge of the rotating wheel on the side edge 1A of the glass plate 1, the size of 'kinks' to be generated is reduced.
