Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform bundling and securing of superior heat resistance, chemical resistance and air tightness by dipping the end part of the bundled optical fibers into the suspension of frit glass and fusion welding the frit glass penetrated and deposited on and in optical fiber surfaces and clearances.
CONSTITUTION: The ends of the bundle 1 comprising bundling optical fiber strands 1a by using a metal sleeve 3 such as of stainless steel are protruded in writing brush form and are then dipped in the suspension comprising dispersing frit glass of several μ up to 1μ or less in the binder composed of nitrocellulose and amyl acetate or the like in a cell 5. Next, the bundle is pulled up and the sleeve 3 is pulled down to house the ends of the bundle 1 into the sleeve 3. Next, the frit glass is melted in a furnace 6 provided with a heater 6a, whereby glass brazing 4a is accomplished. Clearances 7 are also filled with the glass braze. The glass films 4b produced to the end of the bundle 1 are cut away after the bundle is taken out from the furnace 6 and the end face of the bundle 1 is polished to end the fabrication. In this way, embrittleness and deformation owing to the heat of the fibers 1a are prevented by the use of the low-melting point frit glass.
