Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable pressing efficiency and forging size accuracy to be improved by providing a distance piece which elevatably guides a press frame to a base and shortens the stroke of the main cylinder thereby making the elevating range of the press frame variable.
CONSTITUTION: In order to conform to the forging conditions for the ingot 13 to be forged, a press frame 2 is held in the current position by a pulling cylinder 5 and the piston rod of a main cylinder 7 is retreated to the retreat limit, whereby a spacing from a distance piece 8 is provided. Next, pieces 8, 9 and cylinders 10, 11 are respectively retreated to withdraw.
