Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the captioned adsorbent which is composed of the solids comprising mixing an argillaceous adsorbent and silicic acid gel or aluminum gel and firing the mixture and which is effectively adaptable to flow system treatment and is repeatedly usable through regeneration.
CONSTITUTION: An argillaceous adsorbent such as active clay, acid clay, etc. and silicic acid gel or aluminum gel (SiO2 or Al2O3 or other) are mixed and the mixture is fired to obtain the granular argillaceous adsorbent. This adsorbent is packed in a packed tower and is contacted with heated oils and fats, whereby the impurities in the oils and fats are adsorbed and removed. The adsorbent having adsorbed impurities is activated by being contacted with an organic solvent to remove a small amount of the deposited oils and fats followed by being contacted with a water soluble organic acid (anhydride) to let the impurities elute and further being contacted with a water soluble organic acid (anhydride) having been heated to the temperature below its boiling point. After this it is rinsed and fired, whereby it is regenerated.
