Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily remove degenerating components which form tar or soot, contained in kerosene, by contacting kerosene with a specific inorganic substance or active carbon.
CONSTITUTION: Kerosene is passed through a layer consisting of active carbon or at least one inorganic substance, particle diameter ≤100 mesh, selected from the group consisting of active alumina, silica gel, molecular sieve, Fe2O3, MgO, CaO, CaCl2, Ca(CO3), magnesium silicate or aluminum silicate, thereby to adsorb degenerating components formed by deterioration of kerosene, such as resin components or acid components which produce tar or soot. The inorganic substance or active carbon having adsorbed degenerating components is regenerated either by contacting with an organic solvent such as methanol or by heating the inorganic substance to at least 500°C.
