Abstract

PURPOSE: To prolong the washing period of filter materials, improve filtration efficiency and lower cost by passing the raw liquid containing filter cake particles into a fibrous-material-packed tower to let part of the packings flow out and mix in the raw liquid and sending this mixed liquid to the filter.
CONSTITUTION: Packings composed primarily of fibrous materials (synthetic fibers, glass fibers, etc. are worked to non-woven fibric or felt form) are packed in a tower 3 to the extent of allowing the passage of the filter cake particles in the raw liquid. The raw liquid is passed in the tower 3 and is supplied to a filter 5 by way of a pump 4. Part of the packings loosen from the tower 3 and flow out and mix in the raw liquid, then they are captured in the filter 5. These fibers make the similar action to that of precoating or body feed filtering of conventional methods, thereby prolonging filtration cycle and improving filtration efficiency. This eliminates the need for tanks and pumps for filter aids, eliminates troubles such as clogging of piping for aids, etc., makes operation simple and increases the treating capacity of the raw liquid for filtration.
