Abstract

PURPOSE: A carcinostatic agent that contains a specific benzaldehyde compound as the effective ingredient, thus being especially effective against cancer induced by SV40 virus.
CONSTITUTION: Said carcinostatic agent contains, as the effective ingredient, a compound of the formula (R is phenyl, nitrophenyl, hydroxy-lower alkyl, hydroxybenzoyl, toluylsulfonyl, carbamoyl, thiocarbamoyl, phenylthiocarbamoyl). It is orally or nonorally administered. For example, benzaldehyde phenylhydrazone, benzaldehyde β-hydroxyethylhydrazone are used. Conventional chemotherapeutic agents are effective against implanted cancers to animals whereas this agent is effective against cancer caused by SV40 virus, that means that it is effective against initial cancer and additionally low toxicity.
