Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method of extending oil fence, which is suited for use at the time when oil has flowed out by accident and which is advantageous in that costs required for installing the oil fence can be reduced considerably.
CONSTITUTION: When oil fence 3 is not in use, it is retracted at one place 4 by use of mooring cable 11 which is connected to one end of the oil fence 3. Rope 7 is connected to the other end of oil fence 3, and the rope 7 is normally submerged on the bottom of water and passed to the other place 5. End portion of the rope 7 is connected to a suitable winding means such as winch 8. With such an arrangement, if accident of oil outflow has been caused, winch 8 is driven to wind rope 7 around the same, whereby oil fence 7 can be extended across the river.
