NEW MATERIAL:A fluorinated sulfonic acid of the formula RfAOBSO3H (Rf is 1W20C polyfluoroalkyl, preferably 3W18C perfluoroalkyl group; A is 1W10C bivalent alkylene group; B is 3W4C bivalent alkylene group).
EXAMPLE: A compound of the formula C8F17CH2CH2OCH2CH2CH2SO3H.
USE: An intermediate for fluorinated anionic surfactants, e.g. leveling agents for fire- extinguishing agents or waxes, additives for coating materials, mist preventibe for plating and etching baths. The surfactants are fluorinated sulfonates of the formula RfAOBSO3M (M is alkali metal, NH4, etc.), have a high surface tension reducing ability, and improved foaming and resistance to hard water.
PROCESS: A polyfluoroalcohol of the formula RfAOH is reacted with a sultone compound of formula at 30W160°C to give the objective compound.
