Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain uniform lead titanate powder of single domain fine crystals and narrow grain size distribution by specifying the purity of PbTiO3 obtd. by press molding mixed powder of PbO and TiO2 and synthesizing them at a high temp. after which the PbTiO3 is allowed to cool and pulverized.
CONSTITUTION: Mixed powder of high purity PbO and TiO2 is press molded and held at above about 650, pref. 850W1250°C for several hr to synthesize the PbO and TiO2. At this time, the purity of the resulting PbTiO3 is held at 99% or above. The PbTiO3 is then allowed to cool and pulverized by being agitated in water with a propeller agitator while preventing occurrence of internal rupture of particles and internal domain asymmetry. By this method single domain fine crystals contg. no excessively fine powder and no coarse particles are obtd. without requiring high degree pulverization operation in powdering. This product is used as a base material for sealing glass for an IC package, a composite piezoelectric material together with a high molecular material, a base material for a pyroelectric material etc.
