Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the abnormality of laser light scanning and minimize printing faults by providing a sensor which detects the abnormal radiation of laser beam outside the effective scanning region of the scanning line of the laser line on said scanning line.
CONSTITUTION: Arrangement is so made that as far as the output of a light modulator 5 is normal, laser light is not radiated to the outer side of an opening part 8. Whereas, the laser light is continuously radiated to one portion within one page owing to the occurrence of a trouble in the light modulator 5 or a control circuit giving dot pattern signals to the light modulator 5, then the laser light arrives on both outer sides of the opening 8. Whereupon, a photo sensor 9 is provided on the outer side of the right end of the opening 8 of a shield plate 7 so that in the event of abnormal radiation, said laser light is detected and the printer may be stopped. Such constitution enables the abnormality of the laser light scanning to be detected and printing faults to be minimized.
