Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a high voltage monolithic solar cell, grooves made on a semiconductor substrate are provided with conductive type layer which is different from the substrate so as to reach the back side of the substrate, and a number of PN junctions are connected in series.
CONSTITUTION: V grooves 6 are formed on a semiconductor substrate 1 such as Si or GaAs. The surface and V grooves of the substrate are provided with a conductive layer 2 which is different from the substrate 1 so as to reach the back surface of the substrate 1. In addition to the layer 1 and 2 connection with the electrodes 3, the mutual layer contact forms ohmic connection. This makes series connection of PN junction on the substrate 1 and external current can be brought out by providing electrodes 4 and 5. Even weak light can provide a high voltage sufficient to charge a secondary battery for portable electronic device such as watch.
