Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:4-Benzoylpyrazole derivatives of formula I (R1, R2 are 1W3C straight-chain or branched alkyl) or their salts.
EXAMPLE: 1,3-Dimethyl-4-(2,4-dichlorobenzoyl)-5-hydroxypyrazole.
USE: Herbicide, whitening weeds to death.
PREPARATION: An acyl halide of formula III (X is halogen) is made to act on a compound of formula II in the presence of a catalyst, such as a hydroxide of alkaline earth metal, especially calcium hydroxide, to give the objective compound of formula I. Further, when necessary, the resulting compound is converted to the corresponding salt of an alkali metal, ammonium, or mineral acid. Preferably the reaction is conducted by using 1 mole of the compound of formula II and 1W2 moles of the acyl halide and keeping the temperature at room temperature to the refluxing, preferably the refluxing temperature of the solvent for 1W10 hr.
